CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Thursday's record $25 million donation to MUSC for its new children's hospital catapulted the medical university past the halfway mark in its fundraising goal.

BenefitFocus CEO and co-founder Shawn Jenkins pledged the $25 million, the largest single donation MUSC has ever received, for a hospital that will bear Jenkins' name.

That single donation accounts for half of the $50 million goal MUSC set.

With additional donations of $5 million from Boeing, $500,000 from SCE&G, $265,000 from singer Darius Rucker and $18,000 from "Wheel of Fortune" hostess Vanna White, MUSC has raised nearly $30.8 million.

MUSC needs a minimum of $35 million for the 10 percent down-payment required for a HUD loan for the $350 million dollar facility, which is set to begin construction in April of 2016.

The new MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital is slated to open in 2019.
