CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy is scheduled to address graduates at the Medical University of South Carolina.
About 600 graduates will receive diplomas on Friday at the Charleston school.
Murthy was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last year as the nation's 19th surgeon general. The surgeon general is considered the country's doctor and serves as a spokesman to provide information on ways to improve the health of U.S. citizens.
He also oversees the operations of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, which has 6,700 uniformed public health officers.
