We spent extra time on our morning weather debriefing due to variations between models and exact anticipated location of the storms on the way.
After analyzing multiple scenarios, we hit the road west toward North Platte, Nebraska. We spent close to two hours tracking radar and waiting for storms to spark up. Once the models became more confident and a tornado watch was issued, we headed further west before making a quick dodge north to Alliance, Nebraska.
Along the way we saw multiple strong thunderstorms featuring downpours, heavy lightning, and even some small hail. The atmosphere was not favorable for tornadoes today, but tomorrow looks promising for even stronger storms through much of Kansas.
We will spend the night in North Platte, Nebraska before waking up early to make our way to Kansas. Today was a great taste of severe storms in the Great Plains, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store!
So as we drive back to south central Nebraska, looking at a beautiful rainbow, I encourage you to stick with me tomorrow on my Facebook and Twitter as we move into big storms!
