BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is purchasing GPS tracking units for their K-9 officers thanks to a donation from Sangaree students.
Members of the Sangaree Intermediate National Elementary Honor Society presented deputies with a check for $1,500.
Deputies say given the events of last weekend's search in Moncks Corner with the Deputy shooting, this donation couldn't have come at a better time.
"Having to coordinate with multiple agencies, like we did this past weekend, we can hand that control head off to a supervisor who's over the perimeter unit," Scott Cook, with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, said. "They can adjust without us really having to get involved. They'll see where we're going."
Students participated in several fundraising events to raise money for the project.
In November, they hosted a car wash that raised $277. In February, a Valentine's Dance raised $992.25. The following month, students had a pickle sale which raised $164.15.
The school's PTA donated the remaining $66.60 to round the amount up to an even $1,500, Murray said.
