ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - Orangeburg residents are hearing from an Army veteran from the Vietnam conflict during an observance of Memorial Day.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports (http://bit.ly/1LqcxDk ) the Rev. William Rogers Thompson speaks Sunday at the 3 p.m. program at Veterans Memorial Park.
Thompson served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1972 and with the Army Reserves from 1972 until 1980.
Prayers are being offered by the Rev. Charcey Priester of St. Paul Baptist Church.
The event includes a wreath-laying ceremony and a welcome from Orangeburg Mayor Michael Butler.
The observance is sponsored by local veterans groups, including the Orangeburg County Veterans Council, Orangeburg County Veterans Affairs, American Legion Post 4 and Veterans of Foreign War and their ladies' auxiliaries.
