Coroner ID's man, 23, in Memorial Day drowning on Sullivan's Island

SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A 23-year-old man who was pulled from the water at Sullivan's Island Monday afternoon has died, according to the Charleston County Coroner's Office.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bobbi Jo O'Neal says Santos Castillo, of Hanahan, was pronounced dead at East Cooper Medical Center at 4:49 p.m..

Officials say Santos was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water at the beach on Sullivan's Island.

Rescue crews responded to the area of Station 22 for a person in distress.

The Coroner's Office has reported his cause of death as drowning.
