SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Carla Stewart-Horlbeck said a relaxing day with her young daughter on Sullivan's Island turned to excitement after both watched as a 6-foot shark was reeled in Monday afternoon.
Carla, of Summerville, said it happened around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Station 30 when she noticed a crowd gathering around a man who was fishing.
"I knew he had something big," Carla said. "His reel was bent all the way over. Everyone at the beach started walking over, so me and my daughter got out the water and walked toward the rocks."
Pictures Carla provided show the fisherman with the shark, which was released.
Suffice it to say, Carla and her 1-year-old daughter, Maliyah, got more than what they expected on their visit to the beach.
"It was just amazing to see a shark that size, and also how no one returned to the water," Carla said.
