BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol said that crews have cleared the scene of an accident where a tractor trailer carrying HAZMAT material overturned on I-26 in Berkeley County early Friday morning.
SCHP officials announced around 2 p.m that all lanes were open and traffic is moving slowly in the area.
Officials with Berkeley County Fire & Rescue say crews responded to the wreck around 2:40 a.m. on I-26 westbound near mile marker 174 involving an overturned tractor trailer.
According to Highway Patrol, the driver veered off the road, hitting a DAT message board. The semi then overturned.
Troopers say DHEC is on the scene because the tractor trailer was carrying HAZMAT material. Authorities said DHEC was still on scene Friday afternoon cleaning what was left on the side of the road.
The driver, who was entrapped, was removed from the vehicle and flown to MUSC for treatment, according to rescue crews.
No word at this time on the driver's condition.
