BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified a motorcyclist who died early Friday morning following a wreck in Berkeley County.

Coroner William Salisbury says 39-year-old Alexander Lomazzo, of Moncks Corner, died after crashing his motorcycle on Highway 17-A near Mail Route Road. The fatal single-vehicle wreck occurred around 2 a.m. in an area between Moncks Corner and Jamestown.

According to troopers, Lomazzo lost control of his 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle, went off the left side of the road into a ditch and struck several trees.

Lomazzo, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials say.

The accident is being investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner's Office and Highway patrol.
