CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - With the start of hurricane season just days away, Gov. Nikki Haley along with the Charleston County Emergency Management Department are working to make sure area residents have a plan.
The department held its annual hurricane preparedness meeting Friday at the Emergency Operations Center located at 8500 Palmetto Commerce Parkway in North Charleston.
Area residents are encouraged to download the 2015 Charleston County Hurricane Guide, which includes items you should have in your emergency supplies kit, evacuation information and routes, along with shelter procedures.
The guide is available at
, by clicking the "Are You Ready" banner.
New this year are additional transportation pickup points, along with new procedures for opening hurricane shelters.
Rather than a predetermined list, shelter locations will be determined upon approach of a hurricane.
Charleston County Management officials have asked that all residents be responsible to make sure their family has a plan in place, also encouraging churches, civic groups, and community members to print the 2015 guide for those without access to the internet.
