CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A fundraiser Monday night will help support a 5-year-old shot in downtown Charleston.
The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday night at the International Longshoremen's Association Hall on Morrison Drive.
It will include a silent auction and give visitors the chance to donate to the Tyreik Gadsden Foundation.
Gadsden was left paralyzed from the waist down in the May 22 shooting after a bullet lodged near his spine, his family says.
Police say Gadsden was wounded in the right side of his back, while a 20-year-old man was wounded in his lower left leg. The adult has since been released from the hospital, authorities say.
Gadsden has been transferred to a rehabilitation hospital in North Carolina for specialized treatment, according to sources close to the family.
Investigators have no information on the gunman and have asked for the public's help in developing leads.
Anyone with information should contact the Charleston Police Department at (843) 577-7434 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
