Coroner identifies man killed in West Ashley shooting

Police: One person dead following shooting in West Ashley

WEST ASHLEY SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified a 40-year-old man who was killed in a shooting in West Ashley Wednesday evening.

Richard Williams of Charleston died on scene at 5:35 p.m. form a gunshot wound.

The shooting happened in the area of North Avalon Circle off of Ashley Hall Road.

Emergency dispatch operators received the emergency call at 5:40 p.m.

CPD investigators were seen placing tape around a home as well as taking pictures of evidence on the ground.

Dispatch officials say the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, City of Charleston, Fire and EMS responded to the incident.

Police say this is the fourth homicide in the City of Charleston this year.

Investigators are gathering information to identify the suspect involved.

"The shooting has got to stop," said Brenda Caparas, a resident in the area."It's so very sad. Back in the day, people used their fist. Nowadays, people pull out a gun and just shoot. It does concern me very much."
