Charleston police searching for man who took $150 from Children's Museum

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department is looking for a man who took $150 from a children's museum in downtown Charleston.

The incident happened at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry on 25 Ann Street on May 29.

Employees said a man attempted to purchase a small item from the gift shop. After completing the purchase, police say the man requested change for large bills that he was carrying.

According to investigators, in the process of exchanging the bills with the cashier, the suspect would divert the cashier's attention elsewhere and take the bills back that were to be exchanged.

Police say the suspect would continue to confuse the cashier with hand movements and placement of the bills across the counter, until the cashier was not sure which bills were to be exchanged.

The cashier's register was $146 short after the suspect left the location at 1:19 p.m.

According to police, the suspect is running the same swindle in Mount Pleasant.

If anyone has any information you are asked to call Inv. Kursh at 720-3913 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
