NAACP questions CCSD superintendent selection process, wants new search

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Community groups called for a new Charleston County School District superintendent search Friday the day after the district released the names of three finalists for the position.

The Charleston Branch of the NAACP and members of the Tri-County chapter of the National Action Network accused school board members of handpicking one candidate and holding "secret meetings" with her before the search was publicly announced. That candidate, they say, turned out to be one of the three finalists announced Thursday.

Thursday, district officials announced Dr. Terri L. Breeden, the assistant superintendent of the  Department of Instruction for Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia; CCSD Deputy Supt. Dr. Lisa N. Herring; and Dr. Gerrita Postlewait, assistant vice president of ACT in Iowa City, Iowa

CCSD Board of Trustees are expected to announce candidate interview schedules June 9.
