AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley plans a ceremonial bill signing for a new law that gives military veterans in-state tuition rates as soon as they become residents of South Carolina.

Haley signed the bill into law last month. She will hold a celebration at the University of South Carolina Aiken to commemorate the bill at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The law waives the requirement that someone must live in South Carolina for a year to get in-state tuition. It applies to any honorably discharged veteran.

Supporters say the bill had to pass in 2015 or all veterans attending college in the state on the Post 9/11 GI Bill would lose their benefits.

The bill unanimously passed the House and Senate.
