MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A 21-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a stabbing that occurred at a community center in Mt. Pleasant over the weekend.
Breauna Dashea Pinckney was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with first degree assault and battery.
Mt. Pleasant police responded to the Snowden Community Center on William Ladson Road Saturday around 12:40 a.m. for reports of a possible shooting. Once on the scene, officers learned that a stabbing had occurred.
An incident report states police found a lot of blood at the scene, but no victim or suspect. Witnesses at the scene were reportedly uncooperative.
Shortly after arriving at the scene, police were advised a stabbing victim had just been brought in to East Cooper Hospital.
The report states police met with the stabbing victim, who was in the emergency room trauma unit at the hospital. Police say the female victim, who was suffering from massive blood loss due to the stabbing, was able to identify Pinckney as the suspect before nearly going unconscious. She was then stabilized by doctors.
The victim later told police she was trying to break up a fight between Pinckney and a family member after the two began throwing punches. She said she did not know she was stabbed until someone told her she was bleeding, at which point a family member drove her to the hospital.
Doctors reportedly placed a tourniquet around the victim's left arm due to her injuries, and she was then transported to MUSC for further treatment. Her exact injuries are redacted from the incident report.
Pinckney is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
