NAN: 5-year-old boy struck by bullet in Charleston now battling meningitis

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The National Action Network says a 5-year-old boy who was truck by a stray bullet is now battling meningitis because of an infection from bits of the bullet in his spine.

Tyreik Gadsden was shot in downtown Charleston last month and is currently at a rehab center in North Carolina.

Officials with NAN said on Thursday that doctors reported that Tyreik is having headaches and is having trouble sitting up.

Calvin Brown, Jr. is behind bars for the shooting.

He's charged with two counts of attempted murder for the shooting that happened on America Street.
