SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Right now on Sullivan's island you're able to enjoy a brand new trail!
Station 16 Nature Trail opened Friday on the island.
The more than 650 foot nature and Boardwalk trail has been in the works for years.
It's right off Atlantic Street on Sullivan's Island near station 16.
The trail runs through the towns protected land and connects the beachfront through the station 16 beach access path.
It was created through grant funds from the Urban Greenbelt Grant Project, along with town money.
City leaders say this is the first of what could be many nature trails.
"People tend to look at the paths that we have as a way to get from the street to the beach," Mayor Patrick O'Neil said. "This path is a way to stay between the street and the beach. To really get to know the different kinds of plant life, the different kinds of animal life, bird life that exists in this wonderful space."
The protected land in the area is more than 90 acres.
It all runs parallel to the Atlantic Ocean.
