SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - An unprecedented run spanning over six decades as the head football coach of the Summerville High School Green Wave could soon be coming to an end for John McKissick.
The most winningest coach at any level of organized football is meeting with Dorchester District Two officials Tuesday morning.
According to a DD2 official, a press conference could be coming after their meeting concludes.
Tuesdays meeting comes two days after sources confirmed to Live 5 News the 88-year-old head coach would be stepping down after 63 seasons at the helm.
When reached by phone McKissick wouldn't confirm that he's retiring, but he did say it's "still in the backside of my mind." He said an official decision would be announced at a news conference later this week.
McKissick, who will turn 89 in September, was hired as head coach of the Green Wave in 1952. He has gone on to win a record 620 games and 10 state championships.
