Volvo and Mercedes working with readySC to train workers

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Volvo and Daimler-Mercedes Sprinter are working with readySC to get information out about hiring and training for the yet-to-be built automotive plants in the Lowcountry.

ReadySC, which is a part of the state's technical college system, will be handling the training for the automotive manufacturers. It has set up two websites, where potential employees can sign up to receive email alerts, as these companies start training and hiring.

Mercedes is building a facility in Ladson that will make Sprinter vans. That plant will be located on Palmetto Commerce Parkway. It's expected to open in 2017, and will employ about 1,300. To receive employment alerts, click here and register your email address.

The Volvo Car plant is scheduled to open in 2018. Volvo will hire 2,000 people over the next decade, and plans to have a workforce of up to 4,000 by 2030. That facility will be located in Berkeley county.
