CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Garrigan outlasted three other Charleston chefs in a "Big Barbeque Bout" Tuesday night to win Food Network's Chopped. The cook-off show presents culinary masterminds with three rounds of "mystery baskets" packed with four unique ingredients, forcing chefs to think outside the box while cooking a cohesive three-course meal.
Tuesday night's episode was as Southern as it gets, bringing to together Charleston and barbecue.
Garrigan was joined by chefs Jimi Hatt of Guerrilla Cuisine, Deljuan Murphy of Fleet Landing, and Heather Edwards of Cannon Bar & Kitchen. Using mystery ingredients like regional BBQ sauce, jumbo shrimp, pork spare ribs, bananas and more, Garrigan continued to impress the judges to take home the title.
Judges for the barbecue showdown were Ray "Dr. BBQ" Lampe, Aaron Sanchez, and Alex Guarnaschelli.
Garrigan, along with Aaron Siegel, worked together to create Home Team BBQ in 2007. He first served as sous chef at the West Ashley location before taking over as executive chef of the Sullivan's Island location it opened in 2009.
