CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District has placed its summer programs on an administrative lockdown as the investigation continues into the fatal mass shooting at a downtown Charleston church.
Officials with the school district say the lockdown is a precaution until the suspect in Wednesday night's shooting at Emanuel AME Church has been captured.
Additionally, Buist Academy will be closed Thursday and Friday. The school will be closed to all activities both days, according to CCSD spokesperson Erica Taylor.
CCSD offices at 75 Calhoun Street will operate as normal on Thursday, but said staff members should use East Bay Street to report to work.
The Children's Center at Citadel Square, which is located right next to the church, is also closed Thursday and Friday, according to a spokesman.
