In a community-wide effort to show their support, churches from around Charleston held prayer vigils at their churches and walked towards Emanuel AME Church.
Hundreds gathered at Second Presbyterian Church on Meeting Street, just walking distance away from Emanuel AME to pray and remember the nine lives lost in Wednesday night's shooting. People from different backgrounds, young and old held hands in reverence.
Second Presbyterian was a part of a city-wide walk to Emanuel AME where multiple church groups and other individuals gathered to pay their respects.
Throughout the event, groups were using the hashtag #IamAME to show their respect and their united front.
