CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - For a second day, mourners have been adding to a makeshift memorial outside the Charleston church where nine people were gunned down Wednesday.
Flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, candles and messages line the front steps at Emanuel AME Church as people file by, some adding their own items to the display as others quietly take in the scene and pray for the victims and their families.
Police say a gunman opened fire during a bible study inside the church at approximately 9:05 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities responded to a report of a shooting and found eight dead inside. A ninth victim died at MUSC.
Some say it is a matter of showing love in the face of hatred, echoing family members of the victims who spoke at the bond hearing of the 21-year-old accused of the killings.
