Emanuel AME holds first Bible study since shootings

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Emanuel AME Church held its first Bible study since a shooting claimed nine people there last week.

The class was led by Dr. Norvel Goff, Sr., the church's interim pastor who also led Sunday morning's service.

The message of the study was “The Power of Love.”

A perfect illustration of that power continues to form outside the church as visitors pray and leave flowers and messages outside the church.

The church's pastor, State Sen. and Rev. Clementa Pinckney and eight others were killed when a gunman opened fire after a Bible study on June 17.

As the study was set to wrap up, a community group planned to unite people to form a human heart shape in Marion Square just blocks from the church as a show of support and unity for the community.
