JetBlue flight diverted to Charleston over smell in cockpit area

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A JetBlue flight made an emergency landing at the Charleston International Airport Monday afternoon because of a smell reported in the cockpit.

The flight had taken off from Grand Cayman and was bound for John F. Kennedy Airport in New York when pilots detected the odor and requested to land in Charleston so the plane could be checked out, according to Charleston County Aviation Authority spokesperson Charlene Gunnells.

The aircraft touched down at approximately 4:54 p.m., she said.

Passengers are expected to be processed through US customs in Charleston and will continue on to New York Monday evening.
