FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 8 p.m.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. for the Lowcountry.

The National Weather Service issued the watch for Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton and Beaufort Counties. Allendale, Hampton and Jasper Counties and much of southern Georgia is also within the watch area.

This is issued by the National Weather Service when conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. A severe thunderstorm by definition is a thunderstorm that produces one inch hail or larger in diameter and/or winds equal or exceed 58 miles an hour.
