ISLE OF PALMS, SC (WCSC) - Officials say a boy was bitten by a shark at the Isle of Palms County Park Tuesday evening.
Lifeguards were going off duty around 6 p.m. when a woman and a 12-year-old boy approached them.
"As the [lifeguards] were leaving the beach, packing up and getting ready to go, a mother and son approached them and asked for some help," said Cynthia Wilson, manager at the IOP County Park.
According to Wilson, lifeguards saw a bite to the boy's left leg, and provided some minor first aid to the child.
The fire department was also called out to the scene, but Wilson they did not provide any treatment since "it was not a serious injury."
"The mother was advised to take her son to seek further medical care elsewhere," Wilson said.
Wilson said both the mother and son were calm during the incident.
"The son had said that he was looking forward to showing his friends his bite," Wilson said."They took it well."
