CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC)
At least one member of a Charleston County constituent school board is now saying the Charleston County school board may have broken the law in offering its superintendent position to Dr. Gerrita Postlewait.
Postlewait was one of three finalists for the job and Thursday, the school board voted to offer her the job.
District 1 board member Joe Bowers released a statement saying, “I believe state law and CCSD policy have been violated in various instances and that there has been a huge lack of accountability and transparency surrounding this process.”
Bowers said he was referring to policy BDG. That policy says that bringing on legal counsel for the district requires board approval. Emails Bowers provided to Live 5 say that Chris Staubes began working to create a contract using a lawyer.
Board chair Cindy Coats responded saying, “Policy BDG [was] not violated in any way.”
