CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Morris Sokol Furniture Company on King Street in downtown Charleston is closing its doors, owner Joe Sokol says.
After being open for 94 years and three generations, Sokol says he plans to close the store and retire.
"It's the right time." Sokol says. "Business has never been stronger. I wish I were 63 instead of 83 years old, so it's time to move on."
Sokol's father founded Morris Sokol Furniture Company in 1921 "with a dream and a delivery cart," he says.
A news release says Sokol is planning "Joe's Retirement Sale," a several-months long sale beginning in mid-July. It says the store will be closed Monday, July 13 through Wednesday, July 15 to prepare for it. The store will re-open on Thursday, July 16.
The release says Sokol has been working at the King Street store since graduating from the Citadel in the early 1950's. "I have met so many great customers, many who have become good friends," says Sokol. "I want to thank those who helped me so much along the way, especially my family and our loyal employees."
