CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Once again, Charleston is considered the best city in America and one of the best in the world by Travel + Leisure readers. The magazine released the results of it's 2015 "World's Best Awards" list and Charleston has been named the top city in the U.S. and Canada.
The "World's Best Awards" are decided by a survey of Travel + Leisure readers. Readers rank the cities on six characteristics. The categories include Sights/landmarks, culture/arts, restaurants/food, people/friendliness, shopping, value. Readers also have the option to rank the city based on romance.
The Holy City, with a score of 89.84 once again edged out New Orleans (88.11) and Savannah (87.02) to earn the top spot on the U.S. & Canada list. Charleston is also considered a "Hall of Fame" city by making the list ten years in a row. Charleston's score was also high enough to finish No. 2 in the world behind Kyoto, Japan.
Several Charleston hotels are also recognized among the best in the country and the world. The Wentworth Mansion (No. 35 overall) and French Quarter Inn (No. 77 overall) both made the Top 100 list of the World's Best Hotels. Charleston also dominated the list of Top Small City Hotels in U.S. and Canada claiming half of the Top 10. The Wentworth Mansion (No. 1) and French Quarter Inn (No. 2) topped the list and were followed by Planters Inn (No. 3), The Vendue (No. 4), and Market Pavilion Hotel (No. 6).
