GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Georgetown County Sheriff's Deputy has been arrested for assaulting his live-in fiance, officials say.
Mark Clayton Durkheim, 21, is facing charges for domestic violence, third degree.
A news release from the sheriff's department says an investigation was started on Monday, July 6, when the victim told deputies that Durkheim physically assaulted her.
Deputies believe Durkheim grew angry about a conflict in their relationship on Sunday, started flipping furniture, and struck his fiance in the face.
Durkheim met with Georgetown County Sheriff's Tuesday morning and was arrested after making a statement. He is awaiting bond hearing at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
The news release says Durkheim has been fired after year of service with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.
