Live 5's five-part high school football preview continues with capsules from AAA. Our previews will continue all week leading up to AAAA on Friday. Interviews and video previews will be available once practice starts.
Head Coach: Jeff Cruce (5th season)
Last Year: 9-5
Top Returners – Israel Mukuamu (So, CB) Supreme Scott (Sr, LB) Hauron Scott (Sr, MLB) DJ Robinson (Jr, RB)
Top Newcomers – Darius Douglas (Jr, QB) Daveon Moore (Jr, WR) Freddie Faison (Sr, WR) Aerimon Gipson (So, DE/DT)
Jeff Cruce finally put everything together in his 4th season with the Stags leading the team to a region title. There will be a lot of guys to replace on offense but Cruce said this is the best collection of skill players he’s had in his time at Berkeley. On defense, look for Mukuamu to take another step up after having a very solid Freshman season.
Head Coach: Charlie Patterson (8th season)
Last Year: 7-5
Top Returners – Sam Denmark (Sr, WR) Vontre Howard (Sr, RB) Tre Smalls (Sr, LB) Dominique Green (Sr, DL) Isaac Holt (Sr, OL)
Top Newcomers – Victor Colbert (Jr, QB)
The Hawks have one of the top returning players in the Lowcountry in WR Sam Denmark who’s committed to Virginia Tech. Along with RB Vontre Howard, they could put up some of the biggest offensive numbers in the area. But a lot of that will depend on the development of new QB Victor Colbert. Hanahan will have four new starters on the offensive line so Coach Patterson will be expecting a lot from his lone returning starter Isaac Holt. Tre Smalls and Dominique Green will head up what should be a solid defense.
Head Coach: Joe Bessinger (2nd season)
Last Year: 1-9
Top Returners – Derius McNeil (Jr, QB) Devon McCoy (Jr, WR) Jaquan Harper (Jr, OL) Daquan Jones (Jr, OL) Daquan Lowry (Sr, DL) Trequan Jones (Sr, DL) Nick Waring (Sr, LB) Tavi Johnson-Drayton (Sr, LB)
Top Newcomers – Brandon Poole (Jr, RB) Juwan Scott (So, WR/RB) Mack Patterson (So, LB)
Joe Bessinger heads into his 2nd season with the Warriors much more comfortable now that he’s had a full offseason to prepare his team. He’s been very impressed with how much the players have improved over the course of the summer and he’s expecting good things from his offense which will be led by a core of juniors. Defensively, Stall should be strong up front led by Lowry and Jones on the defensive line.
