CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A judge set bond at $200,000 Tuesday morning for a 19-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting on Hazelwood Drive.

Thomas DeAngelo Ancrum, Jr., of Charleston, is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to Charleston Co. Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.

Ancrum was identified through various tips as being involved in the victim's death, Watson said. That victim was identified by the Charleston County Coroner's Office as 28-year-old Demeatrius Raynard Smalls.

Charleston police responded shortly after midnight on Tuesday to a report of gunshots fired in the area of Hazelwood Drive. Charleston County deputies assisted in the investigation

A short time later, Smalls arrived at St. Francis Hospital with two gunshot wounds, according to initial reports. The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Witnesses told investigators Smalls was accompanied by another man and woman in a car parked on Hazelwood Drive. The two men exited the vehicle to meet with unknown subjects behind a home when shots were fired, witnesses said.

Ancrum is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing Tuesday morning.
