MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge will be illuminated in the color green for next year's St. Patrick's Day.
On Monday evening, Mount Pleasant Town Council gave approval to a local group's effort to turn the lights on the bridge green for the holiday.
The group, named "Go Green March 17", must pay for the lens caps and the labor to install the caps. The group must also use a Department of Transportation contractor to complete the work.
Also at its meeting, Town Council passed the first reading of an ordinance to approve a referendum regarding a proposed tax millage increase.
The money would go towards new recreation options, including a park off of Rifle Range Road, and improvements to Waterfront Memorial Park.
Mayor Linda Page said council agreed at their meeting to add language to the original proposed ordinance to include senior issues and artistic venues.
A special meeting on the issue has been called for Monday, July 21.
