Public hearing for new James Island development

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The City of Charleston will take up plans Wednesday evening for a new development on James Island. The meeting will be held at 5 pm at the new Gaillard Complex, at 2 George Street.
Developers want to build 115 lots for new homes and apartments on 27 acres off Pawpaw street, between Woodland Shores and Fleming Road, called Riverland Oaks.
Woodland Shores intersects with Maybank Highway, just before the Municipal Golf Course. Many James Islanders are concerned about the traffic impact
it will have on the area.
This plan comes after people have already voiced concerns about the 270 units being built on Maybank Highway, near the intersection of Folly Road
and Maybank Highway. People on James Island have even taken to social media to gain support.
A Save James Island Facebook post says, "115 homes and town homes on acreage is too dense and out of character for this area, will result in massive traffic being added to an already congested area; traffic study desperately needed before any subdivision approval!"
