JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Plans to discuss a new development on James Island near Maybank Highway have been deferred to a later date.
A spokesperson with the City of Charleston said the Planning Commission will not discuss the concept behind the 27.82 acre "Riverland Oaks" development off Pawpaw Street at Wednesday's 5:00 p.m. meeting.
The City did not say why the discussion was tabled.
Developers want to build 115 lots for new homes and apartments between Woodland Shores and Fleming Road.
Woodland Shores intersects with Maybank Highway, just before the Municipal Golf Course.
Many James Islanders are concerned about the traffic impact it will have on the area.
This plan comes after people have already voiced concerns about the 270 units being built on Maybank Highway, near the intersection of Folly Road and Maybank Highway.
People on James Island have even taken to social media to gain support.
A Save James Island Facebook post says, "115 homes and town homes on acreage is too dense and out of character for this area, will result in massive traffic being added to an already congested area; traffic study desperately needed before any subdivision approval!"
