NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A motorcyclist died Saturday night after losing control of his bike, which then caused a second accident involving three other vehicles on I-526, authorities say.
Rollins Wright, 59, died in the accident according to the Charleston County Coroner's Office.
Wright lost control and struck the guardrail in the westbound lanes of I-526 near International Boulevard at approximately 11:03 p.m., according to North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor. Wright was thrown over the guardrail and died as a result of injuries sustained, Pryor said.
Three additional vehicles behind the motorcycle were involved in a chain reaction accident as they attempted to avoid the motorcycle crash, he said. No one in the other three vehicles suffered serious injuries, Pryor said.
All westbound lanes of I-526 were closed for a time immediately after the accident.
