MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant town officials will break ground on the new town hall Tuesday morning, kick-starting almost two years of construction.
The groundbreaking will be held at 10:30 am at 100 Ann Edwards Lane.
The new building will be 90,270 square feet. The facility is expected to be complete in June 2017 at a total project budget of $22,826,875.

The new Mount Pleasant Town Hall will be three stories tall. It will include office space for all departments' administrative staff, a large Council Chambers/Municipal Court room, a smaller courtroom, public meeting rooms, and an archive center.

A new double gymnasium and public park will also be included on the site. The project is funded through Tax Increment Financing (TIF) revenues and the proceeds of a General Obligation Bond issued in 2014.

Phase one of the project will consist of mostly demolition. Several departments have had to temporarily relocated during this phase, including the fire department headquarters, public services, the planning department, and finance division.
