CARTA's operations partner donates $15,000 to Mother Emanuel Hope Fund

Thanks to the passion of a bus driver, The Mother Emanuel Hope Fund has received a generous donation from CARTA's operations partner.

Transdev recently presented a check in the amount of $15,000 to the fundraiser for the Charleston church.

It all began when driver, Cindy Mitchell, started a fundraising effort to help support her community after the tragedy at Emanuel AME Church.

The general manager for Transdev in Charleston heard about Mitchell's hard work and decided to make it a company project. General Manager Ginger Steven's arranged for Transdev to match any contributions made by its employees across the United States and Canada.

The Mother Emanuel Hope Fund provided direct financial support for the funeral and burial expenses of the nine victims killed at the church on June 17.

Organizers say any funds remaining after the funeral and burial expenses will be donated directly to the Emanuel AME Church in ways best determined to benefit the surviving families and the Church. Donations to this fund are not tax-deductible. As of noon on Monday, July 20, $2,222,981 has been collected.
