DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - South Carolina Department of Corrections officials say SLED is investigating following the homicide of an inmate at the Lieber Correctional Institute.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said 33-year-old Dasuan Brown died of a stab wound to the chest and died on July 16. Nisbet ruled the death as a homicide.
SCDC officials say Brown was incarcerated at Lieber for a carjacking.
Officials say the prison was on lockdown following the stabbing.
According to SLED officials, their agency was requested by the SC Department of Corrections to investigate a death at the center and whether any criminal activity was involved that resulted in the death.
"We are conducting an active investigation into this incident," said Thom Berry with SLED.
