SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A big honor for Cane Bay High School in Berkeley County. The school's Cobra Chorale has been selected to perform at the Southern Division of the American Choral Directors Association's Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The event takes place next year, March 10 -12, 2016.
Cane Bay High's Cobra Chorale is the only choir from South Carolina that will perform during the conference.
The Cobra Chorale was selected through a rigorous audition process in which the choir had to submit recordings from the last three years. It competed against schools and programs in the Southern Division, which consists of 11 states, and is judged by a panel of music professionals.
Of 106 choirs, ranging from children's choirs to adult choirs, only 16 groups were selected to perform, four of which are high school choirs.
"This places us in a very elite category in our division, and we are very excited about this opportunity," says William Bennett, Director of Choirs at Cane Bay High School and a 2015 GRAMMY Music Educator Award Top-Ten Finalist.
"This will spread the names of Cane Bay High School, Berkeley County School District and South Carolina throughout our division. It is a very prestigious opportunity for us," Bennett proudly added.
