SOUTH CAROLINA (WCSC) - South Carolina Department of Public Safety and South Carolina Department of Transportation want to bring the number of deaths on South Carolina roadways to zero.
Wednesday morning, they'll announce new efforts to strengthen a campaign called "Target Zero."
24 troopers will be assigned to South Carolina roadways, focusing on the three major traffic violations that lead to highway fatalities: DUI's, Safety belt violations and speeding violations.
The troopers will work full-time, dedicated to the cause, until the three-year grant ends in 2018.
In 2014, South Carolina say 806 deaths from traffic accidents. The goal with "Target Zero" is to bring that number to zero.
The announcement will be made at 10 am Wednesday at SCDOT Engineering District.
