The National Action Network is calling for the removal of the Confederate Flag from the welcome sign in Mount Pleasant.
Members released a statement addressed to the mayor of Mount Pleasant overnight that reads: "The flag is offensive and is a symbol of hate in our country." It goes on: "Our state removed it from our Capital and we hope that as our mayor, with respect for your citizens of Mount Pleasant, you will do the same."
It stated that while they're calling for the removal of the confederate flag, the Sons of the Confederation may keep its name on the welcome sign.
Last week, the National Action Network sent a similar letter to the mayor of Goose Creek, asking him to remove the symbol from that city's welcome sign. The mayor responded, saying it wouldn't happen.
