CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A gas leak in downtown Charleston that forced eight people out of their homes has been secured.
Charleston Police say an SCE&G crew secured the leak at approximately 6:20 p.m.
Cannon Street had been closed between Coming and Rutledge Streets. Dispatchers were notified about the possibility of a gas leak in the area of Cannon between Coming and Felix Streets at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis.
The leak was caused by a construction crew, Francis said.
The Charleston Fire Department also responded.
