The Kraft Heinz Company is recalling certain packages of cheese slices over a possible choking hazard.
The company announced it would voluntarily recall one pound, three pound and four pound boxes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized cheese, according to a news release.
Kraft Heinz says a thin strip of the individual packaging film may remain adhered to the cheese slice after the wrapper is removed. If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could potentially cause a choking hazard.
The recall applies to 3-lb. and 4-lb. sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese product with a "Best When Used By" date of Dec. 29, 2015 through Jan. 4, 2016, followed by the manufacturing code S54 or S55.
The company has received at least ten complaints about the packaging and three reports of people choking because of the problem.
Kraft Heinz says customers who have purchased the product should not eat it and should instead return it to the store where they purchased it for an exchange or full refund.
