Police arrest man after woman thrown against pavement, robbed

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - City of Charleston Police say they've arrested a man they believe threw a woman against pavement and robbed her Sunday evening in downtown Charleston.

Police say Michael Nickens, 25, has been charged with strong armed robbery and assault & battery first degree.

They say the incident happened on King St. and Maple at 6:57 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses say Nickens chased a woman and threw her against pavement, causing injury to her head. The report says he also took the victim's purse.

Witnesses last saw the suspect on King St., heading north on foot.

The victim was taken to the hospital.

Bond for his assault & battery charge has been set at $75,000. Bond is not currently set for the strong armed robbery charge.
