CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner has confirmed Pamela Burgess, 35, of Charleston, died from a fatal gunshot wound in connection to an incident in West Ashley Wednesday morning.died from a gunshot wound.

A Summerville man is in custody following a murder investigation by the Charleston Police Department.

William Gule Jr., 28, is behind bars accused of shooting and killing a woman inside a home on Braxton Avenue near Savannah Highway and Wappoo Road.

Charleston police responded to a reported shooting at around 8:24 a.m. and found a woman dead inside of the apartment.

As of Wednesday night the name of the female victim had not been released. Charleston Police have also not said what kind of relationship he and the victim had.

"I've seen them periodically riding my bike, back and forth going to work," Jake Billings, who has lived in the neighborhood for years, said.

Billings says he would see a woman, a young boy, and a dog out in the front yard on occasion, now it's covered in police tape.

"It seems like a lot of things are getting close to home," Billings said. "It's tragic. You hate to see anything like this happen in your neighborhood."

Others in the area have described it as a pretty quiet place filled with families and older homeowners.

There's a playground nearby, along with a grass field with soccer goals on it.

"Crime is everywhere, I guess," Billings said.

Billings says the area has been getting a bit rough in the past few years.

In 2012, Marley Lion was killed in a parking lot, across the street from where Wednesday's shooting happened.

He says to see another shooting happen is shocking.

"It's tragic," Billings said. "I'm very sorry to see something like this happen."

Charleston Police believe the death is domestic related.

Gule is expected to go through bond court Thursday afternoon.
