JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

The victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Johns Island Wednesday night has been identified.

Colby Rawson, 21, was killed in a crash on Bohicket Road, according to Charleston County Dep. Coroner Kimberly Rhoton.

Deputies responded to the scene near Toni Lane shortly before 7 p.m., according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.

Initial reports indicate Rawson was driving a black 2004 Pontiac was traveling southbound on Bohicket Road toward Esau Jenkins at a high rate of speed while passing several vehicles, Watson said. When attempting to merge back into the proper lane, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree, reports state.

Rawson was pronounced dead at the scene, Rhoton said.

The accident shut down a portion of Bohicket Road and Toni Lane while crews responded.
