Missing woman at Seabrook Island found safe

SEABROOK ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says a 26-year-old woman reported missing by her family has been found.

According to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson, Lauren Helmer is unharmed and in good health.

Officials announced Friday afternoon they were suspending the search for Helmer.

Helmer went missing Wednesday night some time after 8 p.m. from a home on Seabrook Island, authorities said.

Helmer's shoes were discovered on Seabrook Island beach Friday morning by the beach patrol, Watson said.

Detectives did not suspect foul play, he said, but her family was concerned about her well-being and safety.

Charleston County deputies, the St. John's Fire Department, Charleston Fire Department, Charleston County Search and Rescue, the Coast Guard, the state's Department of Natural Resources and Kiawah and Seabrook Island Beach Patrols were actively searching nearby areas.
